Principal® Pivot Series Variable Annuity
Investment flexibility now and for the future
Life is full of changes, and we learn to change with it. Adapting our financial goals is no different.
Principal Pivot Series is an investment-focused variable annuity with over 95 investment options to choose from. They're managed by well-known investment managers and represent a variety of asset classes. The diversity of choice means you can help clients design a portfolio that fits their goals--whether that's growth potential, risk averse, or cost conscious.
Pivot is a lower-cost annuity, allowing clients to design a well-balanced portfolio for an annual cost of less than 2.00%.
And we pride ourselves on the quality of our investments which have a proven history in the market--71% have an overall Morningstar RatingTM of 4 or 5 stars.
Pivot is a tax-deferred investment opportunity. Potential gains within the account are reinvested — and also tax-deferred — which compounds growth. It allows clients to avoid paying taxes on their account’s investment gains until they withdraw money, which can have a powerful impact on their potential investment gains and future income.
If their goals change, so can their investment choices. There are no extra fees or taxes just for moving money between subaccounts. And automatic rebalancing keeps your client’s investments in line with their goals – also with no additional expenses or taxes.
Create a financial legacy
For clients who want to create a financial legacy for loved ones, Pivot offers both standard and optional enhanced death benefits which provide additional protection in case of market volatility. None of our death benefit options require underwriting. Plus, all proceeds pass outside of probate which gets money to heirs more quickly.
Retire with guaranteed money
Pivot’s Flexible Pension Builder rider offers clients an option to convert a portion of their investments into a stream of guaranteed retirement income that’s not affected by market volatility. Money not converted to guaranteed income remains invested for further potential growth.
Different income benefit options are available, including single and joint life benefits.

Past performance is no guarantee of future results. Morningstar proprietary ratings reflect historical risk-adjusted performance for investment accounts with at least a 3-year performance history and are subject to change each month. Morningstar Ratings™ are calculated from an investment’s three-, five-, and ten-year average annual returns in excess of the 90-day U.S. Treasury bill returns, with appropriate fee adjustments, and a risk factor that reflects performance below the 90-day Treasury bill return. Within each asset class the top 10% of investment accounts receive 5 stars (Highest); the next 22.5% receive 4 stars (Above Average); the middle 35% earn 3 stars (Average); the next 22.5% receive 2 stars (Below Average); and the bottom 10% receive 1 star (Lowest). The Overall Morningstar Rating for an investment is derived from a weighted average of the performance figures associated with its three-, five- and ten-year (if applicable) Morningstar Rating metrics.
