Principal Flash Briefing from Amazon Alexa is the newest way to connect


Last year, we shared that Principal® Milestones provides retirement plan participants with financial wellness resources that can help with money management and other financial priorities. The resources help set a strong foundation, so you can talk with employees about their more complex financial and retirement planning needs.

Now Principal® Milestones will include education through Amazon Alexa.

Our Principal® Flash Briefing delivers tips, fun facts and reminders so curious customers can get weekly financial education, without lifting a finger.

Why Alexa?

It’s become common for households to use voice-activated virtual assistant speakers for convenient access to information, entertainment and more. As we work to build confidence in financial decision-making, Alexa is another way to connect.

We’re the first retirement plan service provider to offer a Flash Briefing. And we’re helping keep secure information secure. We won’t share any personal or account information with Amazon. Instead, we’ll use the Principal® Flash Briefing to encourage people to think about their finances.

How does it work?

Amazon Alexa users find and enable the Principal® Flash Briefing skill in the Alexa app the same way they may enable news, weather and other Flash Briefings. Then, when they say, “Alexa, where’s my Flash Briefing?” she’ll read our tips. They’ll hear our content just once a week, even if they ask for flash briefings more frequently.

Give it a try and spread the word

If you’re an Amazon Alexa user, there’s no better way to see how it works than to try it yourself. Visit principal.com/alexa to listen to an audio clip. You’ll be able to activate the Flash Briefing the week of Feb. 18. Then, you can use this flier and video to share Principal® Milestones and the Principal® Flash Briefing with your clients and their employees.

What else is coming in 2019?

More personalized messages and new ways to connect. In 2019, we’re sending our participant e-magazine monthly, instead of quarterly, and the content is more personalized. Participants nearing retirement no longer get a second quarterly newsletter – just the monthly e-magazine filled with more relevant articles and tips. We’re also putting the finishing touches on our brand new mobile app, which will let participants quickly connect and make account updates while on the go.
